First of all, I would like to apologize for a long time I haven't posted anything but introduction. The reason for that is I'm busy optimizing the design of this site. I'm hoping that the make over is good. Anyway, I would like to dedicate this article to those who are going to take/retake the board exam this coming October. My sincere wish that you bring out the best among yourselves and may the deserving ones pass the exam.
Going back to the One-Million-Peso worth question: "Which review center should I enroll?", I would like to answer that in the most unbiased way I can. Of course, I'm only human and I had also my preferences but I will try my best to hide it.
To start with I will enumerate some of the prominent review centers that offer board exam reviews for mechanical engineering in the Philippines.
1. Alcorcon (Cebu & Manila)
2. Excel (Cebu & Manila)
3. Linx Engineering (Manila)
4. MERIT (Manila)
5. PRIME (Cebu)
6. RLB's CDTC (Manila)
I'm sorry for those review center's I haven't mentioned. Please post a comment to include you on the list.
What to look for?
My personal answer to this question is summarized in a single word-REPUTATION. Yes reputation is a prime consideration when choosing a review center. Reputation gives you a glimpse to the quality of review you will get. Where can you find this information?
Do not trust promotional schemes like flyers, banners, and passing percentage claims. Who really knows how true their claims are, anyway? Ask information on persons who experienced reviewing on a particular review center. Do not ask the passers alone, of course they'll tell you all the positives, ask also those who failed. Ask them information about the quality of review sessions, review materials, and tests.
I will put my emphasis on review materials, for me that's the most important thing. It's not about the quantity alone, but also quality. Yes, quantity matters for it widens your coverage on what the actual board may ask, but quality also matters. Is it well balanced when it comes to the three main subjects-Math, Power, Machine Design?

Give 'em 20 max
Board exam, for me, is not about how good your review center is but how prepared YOU are. I'm sorry but its YOU who controls the majority of factors that will determine your fate on the actual exam. Preparation is the key. My personal partition is...
you-75%
review center - 20% Max
The remaining 5% is "luck". This is the element of random events like "the type of questions given are exactly what you have prepared." I'm sorry again but you cannot control this one.
Batch Review
I would like to give personal advise to those who would like their school batch to review in only one review center. For me this is not the optimum choice. The principle you have to remember is "divide and conquer." If you divide your batch to at most 2 or 3 different review centers you can easily access more review materials. The key thing here is a "sharing" attitude. Though some may say that even your own classmate is a competitor in the board exam, isn't it more joyful if all your classmates passed?
I Can't Afford
What if your circumstances cannot afford enrolling in any review center? Don't lose hope. Remember the 75-20-5 ratio? Yes, you still hold the 75% and there are ways you can do to get the remaining 20% without attending in a review center. I know a lot of experiences like this. Success stories that really inspires me. This will be the topic on my next post.

ReplyDeleteTo our successful Mechanical Engineer, I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEERING working in abroad for more than 11 years. ... If any one is having the old written exam question papers please send it to my mail id ...junguia@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteSANA PO MAS MARAMI PNG NKAPOST NA PAST BOARD EXAM..PATI PO SANA SA MATH, POWER...MAY POST DIN NA old BOARD EXAM...pede din po bang ipost kung kelang board exam ung mga tanong....salamat po...at me ganitong site..pls. continue inspiring us....godbless..
ReplyDeleteThanks for these comments! I really appreciate when someone find this website helpful. It was designed to help our fellow mechanical engineers and mechanical engineering students.
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to post as many past board exam as I can. I will admit that the past board articles are not enough to the current needs of the reviewees. The reason behind this is the lack of resources (in my part) specially TIME. Anyway, I was really inspired by the last comment so I will make it my goal to put as many past board exam problems as I can.
I wont promise but I will really do my best to give more board exam materials. Thanks for all your support.
very helpful indeed, thanks pare!
ReplyDeletegreat stuff engr...keep it up!
ReplyDeletethanks engineer Jeff!!!
ReplyDeletetnx po sir... this site is really helpful :) may prime na din po ngaun d2 sa manila. any info on how good their review sessions are ?? ala po akong idea.. i will take the board pa by october so im still choosing a review center.
ReplyDeleteActually Prime is good. They are the most popular review center in Cebu, overtaking Alcorcon and other review centers in the city.
ReplyDelete@emy chua
ReplyDeleteI have a request.
Can you give me their exact address?
I want to update the map of review centers in manila and Cebu
rlb's cdtc is very good
ReplyDeletereview centers do not pay right taxes! especially RLB CDTC!!!!
ReplyDeleteprime here in cebu is not really that prepared for this sept's board exam..
ReplyDeleteThe best pa din RLB CDTC coz unlike any other review schools sa kanila mo matutunan yung talagang hindi mo matutunan sa iba kahit pa nung undergrad pa. Unlike sa ibang review schools umaasa lang sa leakage. which i believe is true kasi when i took the last board exam, yung Alcorcon lumabas ang exam ng power sa refresher nila. Madami ngsabi na kasabay kong ngexam from that review center. Imagine napakadaming errors sa tanung but still may mga tamang sagot daw yun sabi nialcorcon and saktong tanung and even the choices ang lumabas.
Puro laktaw laktaw. May araw na power may araw na desighn. Halo halo ang turo.
Sana students na nahahanap pa lang ng review schools won't just take other's opinion easily. Scrutinize first and wag kayo padadala porke madami ngeenroll in a particular review school. At wa umasa sa leakage.
kuya anung year ka po ng take ng board
DeleteEven the best engineering student's need to backed by prayers always remember that.
ReplyDeleteI am a mechanical engineer already working for 7 years I took the ME board and was able to pass it on the first take. I want to share this article What I did to pass the board licensure exam for those first time takers and re-takers may this article help you to pass the licensure exam.
I forgot to say that I undergo review in Merit Philippines.
ReplyDeleteWhat I did to pass the board licensure exam
wala sa review center yan...nasa examinee yan...
ReplyDeletepromise... if you're that determined to pass, you're doing your part talaga at di nagpapabaya plus guidance kay Lord, you can pass it.
@Aya: I agree that it is really the individual who has the most control in the outcome of board exam. But you cannot deny that review centers can really help. That's my opinion.
ReplyDeletewow! Engr. M kaw pala ang admin nito, akala ko si sir jeff kasi dito ko nkita ung inexam namin sa refresher ng MD at power.lolz. anyway thanks for the tip, the questions in pass board exam and anything you blog in this site, dahil dito ang dming kong nabasa na alam ko n makaktulong sakin para makapasa sa darating sept. board exam!(malapit n nga eh).well, keep up the good work and more powers to you!
ReplyDeleteSino to? hehehe. Anyway, thanks for the comment.
Engr. Dominise nga ba? Please tell me his exact name.
ReplyDeleteEngr. Naging secretary kc aq dun way back 2000-2005
ReplyDeletepinaka maganda.. mag review kayo sa linx.. then mag refresher kayo sa prime.. sa linx mahahasa kayo ng husto sa computations, then elements naman sa prime..
ReplyDelete@secretary of Merit Phils. 2000-05 batch ms suzzete kaw b yan ang pinakamagandang sec. ng Merit... meron p b merit? i hope that our path will cross in the future ha..ha...peace
ReplyDeleteEngr. MIT2001
I definitely dont agree with the review centers that make the marks, it is 99% reviewee's effort that makes the difference.Review centers only guides you to the right direction but reviewees do the hard work.In terms of review centers, definitely i would with Dimagiba Engineering review center.Unfortunately, I dont know if its still conducting reviews.
ReplyDeleteJust query, is Dimagiba Engineering review center still doing reviews?
Nasa Alcorcon Review Center na si Engr. Dimagiba
ReplyDeletemga brod,
bat walang percentage prayer? kahit san ka mag review nsa tao ren yan e..and wag na toy maglokohan..lhat namn ng review centers na yan me nasasagap..kundi man lumalabas..nandun paren yung intensyon..haha..kya nga ang titibay e..yung iba nagsara sila di pa..LOL..just an opinion..^^
ReplyDeletei graduated as ME last Apr. 2000, nagtake na rin ako ng exam for 3 times, oct 2000, apr 2002, apr 2008. ask ko lng kung pwede pa rin akong magtake ng board exam? lahat kase ng past ng examination ko eh walang review but by this time i want to take a review first before akong mag exam kung pwede pa. pls. inform me, any idea regarding this case. pls send a message on my email: dariustagle@yahoo.com. pls help me! thanks bloggers!
SALAMAT
ReplyDeleteda best kung sa linx magrereview and then sa prime mag rerefresher!
ReplyDeletemy merit pb?
ReplyDeleteat kung cnong merong old written exam
