First of all, I would like to apologize for a long time I haven't posted anything but introduction. The reason for that is I'm busy optimizing the design of this site. I'm hoping that the make over is good. Anyway, I would like to dedicate this article to those who are going to take/retake the board exam this coming October. My sincere wish that you bring out the best among yourselves and may the deserving ones pass the exam.
Going back to the One-Million-Peso worth question: "Which review center should I enroll?", I would like to answer that in the most unbiased way I can. Of course, I'm only human and I had also my preferences but I will try my best to hide it.
To start with I will enumerate some of the prominent review centers that offer board exam reviews for mechanical engineering in the Philippines.
1. Alcorcon (Cebu & Manila)
2. Excel (Cebu & Manila)
3. Linx Engineering (Manila)
4. MERIT (Manila)
5. PRIME (Cebu)
6. RLB's CDTC (Manila)

What to look for?

Yes, quantity matters for it widens your coverage on what the actual board may ask, but quality also matters. Is it well balanced when it comes to the three main subjects-Math, Power, Machine Design?

Board exam, for me, is not about how good your review center is but how prepared YOU are. I'm sorry but its YOU who controls the majority of factors that will determine your fate on the actual exam. Preparation is the key. My personal partition is...

The remaining 5% is "luck". This is the element of random events like "the type of questions given are exactly what you have prepared." I'm sorry again but you cannot control this one.
Batch Review
I would like to give personal advise to those who would like their school batch to review in only one review center. For me this is not the optimum choice. The principle you have to remember is "divide and conquer." If you divide your batch to at most 2 or 3 different review centers you can easily access more review materials. The key thing here is a "sharing" attitude. Though some may say that even your own classmate is a competitor in the board exam, isn't it more joyful if all your classmates passed?
I Can't Afford
What if your circumstances cannot afford enrolling in any review center? Don't lose hope. Remember the 75-20-5 ratio? Yes, you still hold the 75% and there are ways you can do to get the remaining 20% without attending in a review center. I know a lot of experiences like this. Success stories that really inspires me. This will be the topic on my next post.

The reason behind this is the lack of resources (in my part) specially TIME. Anyway, I was really inspired by the last comment so I will make it my goal to put as many past board exam problems as I can.

ReplyDeleteThe best pa din RLB CDTC coz unlike any other review schools sa kanila mo matutunan yung talagang hindi mo matutunan sa iba kahit pa nung undergrad pa. Unlike sa ibang review schools umaasa lang sa leakage. which i believe is true kasi when i took the last board exam, yung Alcorcon lumabas ang exam ng power sa refresher nila. Madami ngsabi na kasabay kong ngexam from that review center. Imagine napakadaming errors sa tanung but still may mga tamang sagot daw yun sabi nialcorcon and saktong tanung and even the choices ang lumabas.

Sana students na nahahanap pa lang ng review schools won't just take other's opinion easily. Scrutinize first and wag kayo padadala porke madami ngeenroll in a particular review school. At wa umasa sa leakage.

DeleteI definitely dont agree with the review centers that make the marks, it is 99% reviewee's effort that makes the difference.Review centers only guides you to the right direction but reviewees do the hard work.In terms of review centers, definitely i would with Dimagiba Engineering review center.Unfortunately, I dont know if its still conducting reviews.

ReplyDeleteHello... I graduated at MAPUA in October 1995 and took board exam in April 1996. With God's blessing, I passed the first time. It's REALLY TOUGH! Not being boastful, but passing rate then for the board exam (close to accurate) was 25-29%... I went to MERIT Philippines for review. They're very good. I heard about CDTC then, but more praises on MERIT being passing rate is higher back then.
ReplyDeleteThey will teach you the detail how you arrive on the formula, then you solve it. So then, the more you'll remember how to solve the problem because you know how the formula arrived. I know you can't remember everything but the world of engineering calculations will be open to your eyes.
The only set back for MERIT is when only few weeks away before the board exam, they will rush the teachings. Maybe because the "timing" on teaching needs revision being this should not happen where student trying to absorb in fast pace the understanding. I would say 70% falls on to the hands of the reviewer in passing, the other 30% on the review center. That's an opinion for me. Anybody can state theirs anyway. I put 30% on the review because at Mapua it's fast pace too. Most professors won't teach in detail the solutions, it's all in to your hands. So when you go to MERIT, solutions are wide opening to your knowledge...specially on POWER PLANT.
The reveiw center needs to focus you what the board exam is looking for in solving, for you to make it quick and easy to understand. but it's still on your determination to succeed.
The President Eng'r Dominise is EXCELLENT! Well, I guess anobody in the teaching will do their best...just have to comment on him anyway.

Sa lahat po ng kasama ko sa boarding house, lahat po sila sa ALCORCON nagre-review. then may kasama kaming muslim na classmate namin. Magaling sya samemorization. Nabibiliban kame sakanya nung school days pa kasi almost perfect sya pagdating sa terms. Naiinis lang po ako kasi kung pano nya po laitin yung PRIME e 100% sure sya na lahat ng pinapa-flash sa ALCORCON is yun ang lalabas. Naiinis lang po ako kung pano nya siraan yung PRIME. Nag 1st weekly exam na po kame sa PRIME and i got the highest score among my classmates. Gusto kolang pong patunayan dito sa classmate ko na mali sya sa sinasabi nya. Gusto ko lang din po sanang manghingi sainyo ng copy ng mga review materials nyo po. Soft copy or pdf. anything will do. Please. ReplyDeleteMaishare lang mga ME na magtatake ng board exam, kahit san kayo mag review, Prime or Alcorcon, ok dun.. Unang take ko 2010, sa Lynx kaso di ako pinalad kasi kulang ako sa mga materials, bagsak ako machine design kasi puro "elements at terms" nung mga oras na un ang lumabas sa MD almost 70% ng exam sa MD. So after 5 years, nagwork muna ako, nag ipon ng pang review at exam, then nagresign and then review ako nung May 2015. Sa Prime ako nagreview,, maganda ang review nila so far kasi tinuturo nila lahat ng technique sa calcu, at madami silang take home problems. Ang panget lang sa Prime, puro sila "LooksFam" which is syempre di maganda. Lagi silang may mga problem na inaassume nila na lalabas daw sa board. Mahigpit din sila sa coaching. Kapkap lahat pati bayag mo kakapkapin. hahaha... Di lang maganda ang refresher ni Prime kaya lumipat ako kay Alcorcon. Dun sa Alcorcon, ok na ok na ok.. Maganda ang review nila, nkaabot pa ko sa MD nila. Galing ni Alcorcon magturo.. At refresher nila is maganda, kasi lahat tinuturo nila.. Di tulad sa Prime, pili lang sinosolve nila sa mga refresher. Ang tip ko lang senyo mga gago, mag aral kayo, seryosohin nyo ang review lalo ang refresher. Lahat ng materials na pinapauwi sa inyo sagutan nyo.. lalo ung kay alcorcon. makwento ko lang din, nung nagtake ako sept 29-30 ng 2015, ung powerplant sobrang hirap, di mo masasagutan, kasi wlang tables,.. kelang mo steam tables at molier chart sa ref. kaya aun, 20 lang sure ko sa powerplant. ung mga tables napunta sa 2nd day sa Math.. Dun 75 sure ko tas puro hula na lang ginawa ko.. pinaka madali ung MD, which is 40% at elements at terms. 60% ang problem solving at lahat ay madali lang.. May mga naligaw lang na problems sa powerplant na napunta sa MD at math.. hehe, kala ko bagsak n ko, ang grade ko. 78 sa Power, 75 sa math at 82 sa design.

Tatawagin daw ang girl na type nya sa Library ng CDTC tapos mamanyakin na ung girl.. Triplehin nyo na ang pag iingat, pag once na tumatawag na sa inyo, wag nyo nalang pansinin. Kakaiba yung tactic nya. Ginagamit nya position para lang makuha gusto nya.

Alcorcon ka nalang. Dami na ginahasa yan si Capote na students. Kung wala ka daw pera pang leakage. Iba nalang daw ibayad mo.

ReplyDeleteTook the board exam year 2007, passed it on my first try with an average of 80%. If i break down the percentage i have high scores in Power plant. Actually I reviewed in PRIME review center (CEBU), those who passed on that year can tell the coaching materials that Prime Review center have. I dont know after 10 years whats the status of the review center, but nevertheless i will still let my sister enroll in this review center, she will be taking her review in this review center.
ReplyDeletejust a hint to those who want to take the exam. Dont memorize all the terms, just familiarize.Take memory enhancing supplements it helped me a lot, practice at home on solving problems specially on power plant, since what i heard now from our newly hired engineers it is more on solving, less terms, and lastly.....

ReplyDeleteHi ME peeps. Graduate ako 2009 took the board exam oct 2009 pero fuck bagsak, then took ulit april 2010 and bagsak pa ulit. PEro oks naman work ko ngayon pero gsto nila rme. please help san ba ok mag take ng review while working, prime or alcorcon?? salamat mga sirs

Napansin ko lang po ang daming nagrerecommend sa RLB CDTC. Ask ko lang po kung ayos pa rin ba ngayon doon? Tulad nung sinasabi na nabasa ko sa taas na medyo matagal-tagal na.
